Last night in İstanbul
And much as İ love Greece İ am going to be really sad when we leave Turkey on Tuesday evening - it really has been a great start to the trip. Highlight of today was definitely going to a 300-year old hamam (Turkish bath)where the women and men were borne off ın separate directions and we went into a huge marble-lined room full of arches and steam - I could see neither with my glasses on or off - and we were squeezed and pummelled and slid all over the slıppery marble floors and doused with hot and cold water alternately. We emerged pink and gleaming and wıth a great sense of well-being. Tomorrow to Troy...

Sounds just incredible! Of course I love both water and massage so it would be pure heaven to me. Can't wait to hear all about it in detail.
For your trip to Lesvos - this is part of an article I found re: Erassos, Sappho's birthplace:
"Then you're off to the beach... There are no chairs, but just up toward the road is the lovely Kantina Moon, a kind of beach shack turned restaurant owned by a Greek-Italian couple [read: family] with a huge parrot... Still, you really could kill the entire day here--the beer is cold, the hammock is inviting, and you can run down to the beach, jump in, run back, and barely miss a beat. The water is deliciously warm and clear, and this part of the beach truly feels like a well-kept [family] secret. It doesn't have a name--just ask the nearest local woman where you can find Kantina Moon."
I've emailed the article in its entirety to you. Enjoy!
